MARRIAGE LICENSE APPLICATION

1. HOW MUCH IS A MARRIAGE LICENSE?

The cost of the marriage license is $15.00 which can be paid by cash or check.

2. HOW LONG BEFORE THE MARRIAGE LICENSE IS EFFECTIVE?

There is a one day waiting period.

3. HOW LONG IS THE MARRIAGE LICENSE GOOD FOR?

The marriage license is effective for 60 days.

4. WHAT FORM OF IDENTIFICATION IS REQUIRED?

None; you will be required to sign an affidavit stating all information is true.

5. WHAT INFORMATION IS REQUIRED ON THE MARRIAGE APPLICATION?

Name and address of the bride and groom

Date of birth of the bride and groom

City and state bride and groom were born in

Social Security Number of bride and groom

Name, address and state of birth of the bride and groom's father

Name, maiden name, address and state of birth of the bride and groom's mother Education of the bride and groom

If either bride or groom has been previously married, you will need to know the date of the divorce and the county and state you were previously married in

6. IS A BLOOD TEST REQUIRED TO OBTAIN A MARRIAGE LICENSE?

No blood test is required.

7. IS IT NECESSARY TO HAVE WITNESSES?

No witnesses are required in order to be married in Hancock County.

8. WHAT IS THE AGE REQUIREMENT TO OBTAIN A MARRIAGE LICENSE?

Both bride and groom must be 18 years of age. If not, both parents must sign giving permission for the marriage.

9. CAN THE MARRIAGE LICENSE BE USED ANYWHERE OTHER THAN HANCOCK COUNTY?

The marriage can be used only in Hancock County.

10. WHAT IS REQUIRED TO SHOW PROOF OF MARRIAGE FOR THE CHANGE OF NAME ON DRIVERS LICENSE OR SOCIAL SECURITY CARD?

You can request a certified copy of you marriage license through our office. This can be done by either coming to our office in person or writing to us. If you write to us, you will need to include the name of the bride and groom, date you were married and number of copies requested. There is a $10.00 charge for the first copy and $4.00 for any additional copies purchased at the same time. You can get a certified copy of your marriage license at any time. Once you get one, they are good for anything because of the raised seal showing certification.

11. WHAT ARE THE HOURS THAT A MARRIAGE LICENSE CAN BE OBTAINED?

Our office hours are SAM to 4PM Monday through Friday. No marriage license are issued after 3PM
